The Master

The Master is the head of the college and represents the college externally. Lord Simon McDonald of Salford joined the College in September 2022 and previously served the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. He lives at the Master’s Lodge in First Court and there will be plenty of opportunities to meet him throughout the year.

The Senior Tutor

The Senior Tutor is responsible for the educational provisions within the college and maintains a suitable academic environment. Our Senior Tutor is Dr Tom Monie, and his office is in Second Court. Besides being Christ’s Senior Tutor, Dr Monie is also Director of Studies in Biological Natural Sciences (first year students) and in Biology of Cells and Biochemistry.

The Chaplain

The Chaplain, Revd Dr Helen Orchard, oversees Chapel life, organises regular chapel events, and is always available to speak in confidence on any matter. Her office is located in Second Court and she is always happy for students to drop in, even if just for a cup of tea and a chat.

Postgraduate Tutors

All MCR members are assigned a postgraduate Tutor, who you are encouraged to contact regarding any concerns you may have, be they academic, financial or personal.

Every Christ's College graduate student is appointed a personal tutor, who are committed to the welfare and personal well-being of the graduate student, and are open to being contacted for resolving any concerns regarding academic studies, financial assistance or personal life. Each weekday during Full Term, Tutors are available at regular times in College to see students without appointment during the time known as the 'Open Tutorial' time. They can also refer you to the College’s counseling service, if you need it. Although you have an assigned tutor, you’re welcome to contact any of the tutors. In the 2024-25 academic year, the graduate tutors are

At all other times during Full Term, a Duty Tutor is available on call and may be contacted via the Porters' Lodge, either in person or by telephone on +44(0)1223 334900.

Director of Studies

Within each subject area, a designated Director of Studies (DoS) is a fellow who looks after academic issues, arranges subject-specific tutorials and seminars. The role of the DoS’s is most relevant to undergraduates, but any postgraduate interested in attending any of the events or in tutoring undergraduate students is more than welcome to get in touch with the DoS in their subject.

The Porters

There will always be a Porter available in the Porter’s Lodge, 24 hours a day. They are here to help out with many of your immediate issues, and to let you back into college if you were out a bit too late! They can give you access to tutorial rooms and various College areas if needed, and are generally a good place to start for any inquiry you might have. They are also really nice, and we definitely recommend getting to know them all! The Porter’s lodge is also where you can find your pigeonhole (aka your pidge), and where you can receive mail and packages.
