What is an MCR?

Despite being an acronym for “Middle Combination Room”, “Christ’s MCR” can have 3 distinct meanings in Cambridge:

  1. The official body of postgraduate students studying at Christ’s College,

  2. The room labeled “MCR” in the Yusuf Hameid Centre (located within New Court, a.k.a. the typewriter), or

  3. The Committee in charge of organising student events for postgraduate members of Christ’s.

The MCR (people)

The MCR works as a social and academic hub of Christ’s College’s postgraduate community. You automatically become a member if you are a postgraduate student at Christ’s College.

The MCR (room)

The MCR is found in the Yusuf Hamied Centre in New Court. It is our own space where we hold most events, host film nights, play board games, or just chill out with a cup of tea. The MCR also has a bar where we have pre- and post-dinner drinks every Grad Hall night, and which will also be open during most events throughout the year. We hope you will enjoy the space and use it considerately, and help keep it clean, tidy, and cosy. The MCR is equipped with a kettle, a coffee machine, a microwave and even a fridge and freezer, which you are allowed to use, with the caveat that you are also responsible for cleaning up after yourself. If you use the space to eat or drink, be sure to wash your dishes and put them back where you found them.

The MCR can be booked at any time outside of regularly scheduled events by email to a member of the committee.

The MCR (committee)

The MCR Committee are your elected representatives, responsible for organising social, welfare, and academic events throughout the year. They officially represent your interests in meetings with the Governing Body of Christ’s.

The Mailing List and WhatsApp Chat

You can receive information about MCR events through either our weekly email bulletin or the Christ’s MCR WhatsApp group. You should start receiving MCR emails just before Freshers’ Week. If you don’t, please contact our Secretary, Isobel, and ask to be added to the mailing list. TODO
